What to submit:

1. Application form

You can fill in the application form on web, print the application form from the web page, or request it by e-mail or phone. (Fax copies are encouraged)

2. Transcripts

An unofficial or official copy of your most recent transcript and a list of current courses should be sent by mail. (Fax copies are encouraged)

3. Reference letter

Request two reference letters from your instructors. The letters should be sent by e-mail (to reu@iastate.edu or mfrothsc@iastate.edu) or by regular mail. A suggested reference letter form is available on this site. (Fax copies are encouraged)

4. Statement

On a separate sheet, write a statement of 1-2 pages. This statement should provide the reviewers with a portrait of who you are as a student and a potential scientist. Be specific and thorough. Describe your scientific interests and goals. Specify your career objectives, e.g., research in an industrial setting, research and practice of human medicine, education at high school or college level, etc. Indicate your motivation and interest to conduct laboratory research.

Share your expectations and reasons why you feel particularly qualified for this program. Detail any experiences you have had in independent study, teaching assistantships, research, etc. Specify incidents that influenced you in setting your goals and identify persons who were influential as role models and/or mentors during your education.
